Oliva has grown into a wildly popular brand over the past ten years, although the Oliva family’s lineage in the cigar business can be traced back to Cuba in the late 1800s. With that many generations informing the family’s modern-day cigar-making operation, it’s not surprising they have achieved so much success. Top-selling releases like Oliva Serie V and a recent top spot at Cigar Aficionado’s ‘#1 Cigar of the Year’ for Oliva Serie V Melanio have contributed to the recent dramatic increase in exposure for the brand. Accolades aside, it’s actually good old-fashioned quality, taste and consistency that have generated the burgeoning demand for Oliva. Among the many cigars in the brand’s portfolio, Oliva Master Blends 3 is poised as perfectly as any other to illustrate the company’s formula for success.

A toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper shows off an enticing shade of milk-chocolate and dark-chocolate colors. Beneath, lies a potent, medium to full-bodied marriage of patiently aged Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. A vibrant depiction of a lush, tropical field adorns the band as an homage to the rich Nicaraguan landscape where Oliva cigars are made. The original release of Oliva Master Blends was intended as an annual limited edition. Due to the immense popularity of the Master Blends series, the company produces a more generous supply currently, although it may be somewhat difficult to come by in your local smokeshop. Luckily for us, it’s been a mainstay in the Holt’s inventory because we have a large contingency of Oliva fanatics who’ve been thrilled with Master Blends 3 for so long, they’re constantly besieging our call center and asking for more. In other words, the cigar masses have spoken and trust me, it’s an easy cigar to become enamored with.

Crisp tasting notes of wood and earth are tapered with a raisin-like sweetness on the cold draw. Once you fire up, the intro displays a heady profile of espresso beans, black licorice, cedar and dried fruit. Oliva Master Blends 3 resonates like a chewy Cajun dinner, but remains tempered by the authentic sweetness its Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper delivers. Notes of spice and wood ruminate on a fantastic scale. If you’ve ever opened up a fresh bag of beef jerky that you had to finish off, you’ll get the picture. You could say Master Blends 3 tempts the palate in a similar way. But why take my word for it? You’re missing out if you don’t give this cigar a try. If my humble staff review serves to cloud your perception in any way, shape, or form, just take a look at all of the stellar customer reviews stacked up under our bestselling Oliva Master Blends Monster Deal. All I’m saying is that there’s a hefty amount of cigar hounds out there who swear their Oliva allegiance on Master Blends.

The cigar is an incredible accompaniment to a quality scotch, and you could even pair it with a fairly peaty brand. This is a great selection when you need to ponder things a bit. I’m a fan of the Torpedo, personally. However, I usually smoke it at a measured pace to avoid getting too much of a head rush as I approach the soft, but intense, finish. If you’re ever worried about entertaining a group of picky aficionados, Oliva Master Blends 3 is a phenomenal option when you need to pick up a box. It will be easy to impress your pals with the ‘crown jewel’ of Oliva’s portfolio, knowing you got an unbeatable deal because you bought ‘em at Holt’s!
