In my review of Perdomo 20th Anniversary Maduro, I am elaborating on a phenomenal cigar, an incredible company, and a wonderful family. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, the Perdomo crew is led by brand owner and CEO Nick Perdomo Jr., his wife and Chief Operating Officer, Janine Perdomo, and their son, Nicholas Perdomo III, who recently worked his way up to become the company’s National Director of Sales.

Nick Perdomo Jr. began his journey into the premium cigar industry back in 1992, transitioning from a career as an air traffic controller. Following years of preparation, nonstop work, and help from his father, Nick Perdomo Sr., he moved his relatively young cigar operation to Nicaragua to gain control every aspect of his tobacco from seed to cigar.

Today, the brand is well-established with several tobacco-growing estates and a thriving factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Tabacalera Perdomo is responsible for the production of some of the finest cigars in the world. Over 38 million leaves are harvested by hand each year at Perdomo’s most prestigious farm, Finca Natalie. The tobacco is cared for in very specific ways at the farms and the cigar factory according to traditional and modern techniques.

Seedlings first take root in greenhouses where they are carefully inspected before they are transferred to fields irrigated on a meticulous schedule. Harvesting, curing, and fermentation are critical labor-intensive steps. The bunching and rolling of tobaccos is carried out by talented cigar-rollers with many years of experience. Proper aging of the finished product takes place at the factory. Every step occurs under Nick’s watchful eye. As a stickler for perfection, it’s easy to see how Perdomo has achieved success. His efforts culminate in the many cigars he makes, including the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Maduro I am smoking in a chunky 5 x 56 Robusto.

A sweet and spicy aroma enchants the senses the second the cellophane comes off. The cigar’s thick shape is comprised of superior Cuban-seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua which are concealed by a dark and decadent Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper. A clean cut of the cap reveals prominent notes of chocolate, leather, and cinnamon in the cold draw. Upon lighting, only a subtle pull is required to draw the smoke in and make way for the cigar’s medium to full-bodied profile. The sweetness of the Maduro wrapper promotes ideal balance in a rich blend of tobaccos.

As the middle of the cigar approaches, a delectable flavor of Cuban coffee with cream emerges. The cigar offers a sweet and pleasant transition with notes of leather, earth, and wood as the final third unfolds. As I reach the nub, a succulent and lingering finish develops. Perdomo 20th Anniversary in a Maduro wrapper is a great cigar to consider pairing with a hearty but well-aged Cabernet Sauvignon. Creamy notes of espresso punctuate a long, cool conclusion.

Without a doubt, Perdomo 20th Anniversary Maduro deserves the attention of seasoned cigar enthusiasts as one of the best Perdomo cigars you can smoke. The blend is also available in two other wrapper varietals: Ecuador Connecticut and Sun Grown. Many Perdomo cigars, including the 20th Anniversary, can be purchased in an elegant 5-cigar sampler for those in search of a classy gift who may not want to commit to a full box. The Perdomo collection guarantees to please a wide variety of cigar lovers.

Enjoy!
