Top 5 Cigars to Smoke at Night

The nighttime is the right time. Some cigars just taste better at night – when you’re kicking back in your favorite armchair or you’re unwinding at a good cigar bar after dinner. Most cigars are smoked in the evening anyway. We’re done doing work and running errands for the day, and we’ve usually got more leisure time for savoring a good cigar without interruption, regardless of how long it takes to smoke the whole thing. Also, the time of day makes a difference for when to smoke a milder or stronger cigar for a lot of cigar lovers. Regardless of your preferences, here are few of the best cigars for smoking after the sun sets.

1. Ashton VSG

For nearly a quarter of a century, the 94-rated Ashton VSG has been the premier full-bodied premium from the Dominican Republic. Master cigar-maker Carlito Fuente blends a phenomenal profile of espresso, leather, cedar, and earth with hints of sweetness before a long, sophisticated finish. VSG stands for Virgin Sun Grown – a reference to the cigar’s Sumatra-seed wrapper which hails from the most fertile soil in Ecuador’s volcanic landscape. Ashton VSG is handmade in several popular sizes perfect for smoking at night, especially longer burning shapes like the Sorcerer and the Spellbound.

2. My Father Le Bijou 1922

My Father Le Bijou is in no way a morning cigar unless your nicotine tolerance is off the charts. Despite its powerful profile, the 97-rated Le Bijou 1922 is completely refined and was deservedly named Cigar Aficionado’s ‘#1 Cigar of the Year’ in 2015. Potent notes of dark cocoa, leather, espresso, and black and red pepper punctuate a Nicaraguan classic blended by legendary cigar-maker José ‘Pepin’ Garcia. Eat a full meal before firing up one of the biggest hits from My Father.

3. La Aroma de Cuba Reserva

La Aroma de Cuba is a world-famous Cuban-legacy brand blended by Pepin Garcia in Estelí, Nicaragua, and the Reserva is created from an unrivaled recipe of premium Nicaraguan long-fillers finished in a dark and oily San Andrés Oscuro wrapper leaf. Notes of hickory, black pepper, espresso bean, and leather layer the palate while the cigar’s hearty and dense aroma perfumes the air. Oscuro wrapper leaves are thicker and more intense because they receive more sunlight during the growing process. As a result, they’re fermented longer to achieve greater smoothness, and it shows in La Aroma de Cuba Reserva.

Jorge Padrón and his family carry on an immense tradition started by their legendary cigar-making father and brand founder José Orlando Padrón, and Padrón Family Reserve cigars represent the highest expression of their endeavors. The finest Nicaraguan tobaccos are aged for ten-year minimums before they’re meticulously crafted by master cigar rollers to create Family Reserve cigars. Some of the highest-rated and highest-ranked cigars make up this iconic collection, and the nuances you can taste are worthy of your time well into the wee hours. Notes of cocoa, coffee bean, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, and leather bless the palate with succulent intricacy.
