Best Cigars to Pair With Eagle Rare

Casual bourbon drinkers dig Eagle Rare because it’s smooth, accessible, and exceeds expectations. It’s routinely stood up against other bourbons by the critics only to outshine them. Sophisticated drinkers appreciate the bourbon’s soft, refined taste. Eagle Rare is made at the Buffalo Trace Distillery today. It debuted in 1975 and is considered the crowning achievement of Charles L. Beam (of the Jim Beam family) who created the spirit during his career with Seagram’s, the original producer of the brand. Today’s Eagle Rare is considered the best. The list of gold and silver medals bestowed upon the bourbon over the last twenty years is daunting. And, like all great bourbon, Eagle Rare tastes amazing with a fine cigar. Here are the best cigars to smoke with Eagle Rare.

Eagle Rare 10 Year & La Aroma de Cuba

Eagle Rare 10 Year is where bourbon lovers begin to explore this liberating whiskey, which starts under $50 a bottle. A nose of toffee, honey, orange peel, leather, and oak creates an elaborate first impression. Following, rich notes of cocoa and candied almonds converge in a bold and woody profile that’s just a touch dry. The finish is assertive and polished. Smoke a La Aroma de Cuba with Eagle Rare 10 Year. You’ve got several popular shapes to choose from, and each shimmers with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper blended over a marvelous amalgam of vintage Nicaraguan long-fillers.

Eagle Rare 17 Year & Ashton VSG

While the 10 Year is the stuff most of us can afford, Eagle Rare 17 Year is a small-batch treat. A nose of cinnamon, old cigars, and candied fruit entices right away. Tasting notes of vanilla, tobacco, and leather envelop the palate and linger with traces of toffee and white peppercorn. The extra time the bourbon matures in oak, the woodier it becomes, but loads of nuances emerge as a result. Although 17 Year retails for $99 a bottle, they fetch insanely higher prices because there are so few to go around in today’s red-hot market for limited edition bourbon. When you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one, Ashton VSG is a seamless cigar to smoke with 17 Year. A succulent Ecuador Sumatra wrapper covers a well-aged interior of premium Dominican binder and filler tobaccos grown by legendary cigar-maker Carlito Fuente.

Double Eagle Very Rare & Fuente Fuente Opus X

Double Eagle Very Rare retails in the nosebleed section, for around $2,000 a bottle, but the actual amount you’ll have to cough up to buy one is far higher. The crystal decanter the bourbon comes in is sculpted with an eagle inside the bottle as well one on the stopper. This opulent bourbon deserves a fussy presentation, though. It’s aged for over two decades on the lower floors of the historic Buffalo Trace warehouse, and only 199 bottles are produced. The nose is creamy with notes of darky cherry and caramel. A smoky profile of oak, dates, and dark chocolate galvanizes the palate before a long finish of anise and cinnamon sweeps into play. What to smoke with such a stunning specimen? Fuente Fuente Opus X is our first choice. Only the finest reserves of premium tobacco grown on the world-famous Chateau de la Fuente estates in the Dominican Republic are blended into Opus X, including the cigar’s lustrous Shade Grown wrapper.
