10 Best Robusto Cigars

Shane K. K's picture

Among the most famous Robusto cigars is the Cuban Partagás Serie D No. 4, Cigar Aficionado’s 93-rated ‘#4 Cigar of the Year’ for 2021. It’s been around since the 1930s, but the “Robusto” format as we know it today wasn’t a common reference to a cigar’s size and shape until 1989. The name for this particular vitola came from the rollers who crafted Cuban Cohiba cigars when the Esplendido, Exquisito, and Robusto were introduced. Robustos are between 4.75 and 5.5 inches long with a ring gauge between 48 and 52. Today, Robustos remain one of the bestselling cigar sizes in the U.S., and nearly every premium manufacturer makes a Robusto. Here are ten amazing Robustos to put in your humidor.

1. Ashton Magnum

The original Ashton enjoys a massive reputation as one of the best cigars for beginners thanks to iconic sizes like the Magnum, an elegant 5-by-50 Robusto. Its creamy and mellow profile delivers notes of cedar, cashew, and coffee bean with a touch of spice. It’s considered one of the best Connecticut cigars ever created. Legendary cigar-maker Carlito Fuente blends a glistening Connecticut Shade wrapper over a magnificent core of premium Dominican long-fillers matured to perfection. The Magnum is an ideal introduction to Ashton cigars.

A glistening Sun Grown wrapper hugs a smooth and spicy blend of vintage Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos grown on select Garcia family estates. Notes of cedar, cayenne, cocoa, and baking spices emerge while zesty aromas settle in the nose. Flor de las Antillas is also included in any discussion of the best Puro cigars you can smoke.
