Perdomo Legacy Connecticut Staff Review

Recently, our first shipment of Perdomo Legacy cigars arrived, and I’m excited to fire up the Connecticut blend in a 7-by-54 Churchill. The Legacy series marks a new chapter for a brand that Nick Perdomo humbly founded out of his home in the early 1990s, growing it into a vertically integrated network of farms and factories and one of Nicaragua’s top cigar-making operations. Nick’s son, Nicholas Perdomo III, blended the Legacy edition as a tribute to his father, expressing the pair’s commitment to their company’s longevity.

Nicholas III began developing Perdomo Legacy cigars in 2019, and the collection is available in three unique blends: Legacy Shade Grown, Legacy Maduro, and Legacy Connecticut. Each blend features a special hybrid tobacco created from Cuban and Cameroon seeds. Legacy Shade Grown utilizes the new crop for its wrapper, whereas Legacy Maduro and Legacy Connecticut rely on the hybrid varietal in the binder. Nicholas III selected Nicaraguan long-fillers cultivated on Perdomo estates in Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa to complete the interior blend of Legacy Connecticut, which is finished in a golden-blond Connecticut-seed wrapper.

Legacy Connecticut cigars come in five classic Perdomo sizes, packaged in 24-count boxes featuring an ornate black-and-gold insignia on the lid that matches the cigar bands. Legacy cigars are produced in smaller quantities and are available at select retailers, as the tobaccos are aged extensively. Legacy Connecticut offers an elevated profile distinct from other popular Perdomo blends, including the 10th Anniversary Champagne and the Double Aged Vintage Connecticut, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed in previous reviews.

Legacy Connecticut exudes enticing notes of sweet cedar, fresh bread, and spice in the cold draw after I clip the cap with my guillotine cutter and explore the cigar’s profile before lighting it. The airflow is perfect, and this chunky Churchill unfolds with luscious notes of almond, honey-roasted cashew, and nougat, accompanied by a subtle spice in the background throughout the first ten minutes. Its inviting flavor lacks any harshness or aggression, making it a pleasure to push the smoke out through my nose.

Creamy notes of oak and coffee bean layer the palate, while a toasty finish resonates with each draw. Perdomo Legacy is a perfect summertime cigar, especially if you’re looking for a long-lasting Churchill to savor on the golf course. Its mellow taste and slow-burning pace offer an exquisite smoke that will burn for over an hour without overpowering your palate with too much nicotine or pepper. The wrapper has been aged for ten years, and it shows in the cigar’s refined taste.

I suggest smoking Legacy Connecticut with a frothy Belgian-style beer or a good Chardonnay. The final third culminates in a soft profile of cedar, cappuccino foam, and spice with intonations of caramel in the finish. Perdomo cigars are renowned for their quality and consistency, and Legacy Connecticut proves that Nicholas III inherited his father’s instinct as a cigarmaker, crafting a welcoming and rich smoke that new cigar lovers and seasoned smokers can readily appreciate. Add Perdomo Legacy Connecticut to your next purchase and savor a new hit from this celebrated family enterprise.
